Pedro Escosteguy: poesia, vanguarda e nova objetividade Pedro Escosteguy
Pedro Escosteguy — poesia, vanguarda e nova objetividade documents and reveals the trajectory of one of the most significant figures in Brazilian avant-garde art. Escosteguy’s poetic production moved through an encounter with experimental techniques and mediums, eventually entering a new domain: the three-dimensional universe of his semantic objects.
The importance of Pedro Escosteguy’s visual work stems both from its intrinsic qualities and from the pioneering, influential role he played for his peers and the Brazilian avant-garde movements of the time. By fusing aesthetics and politics, he was able to break the traditional creative boundaries between literature and visual arts, allowing them to overflow into the real world of objects and reinventing them within a new, integral space, one still being formulated and invented, that invited the viewer’s participation in the work.
Designed by Estúdio Campo, the publication features texts by Artur Freitas, Evandro Salles, Izabela Pucu, Ligia Canongia, and Soraya Bragança. It emphasizes the importance of decentralizing traditional art mediums and provides a meticulous review of the work of this essential artist and poet. Escosteguy played a central role in the debate on political art in Brazil, highlighting not only his participation in several landmark events in art history but also his commitment to the collective, to disruptive art, and to the documentation of a generation.

Poema/Processo: Uma Vanguarda Semiológica
In 2017, Galeria Superfície, together with the publisher WMF Martins Fontes, launched the book “Poema/Processo: Uma Vanguarda Semiológica”.
The book presents a historical overview of visual poetry in Brazil, documenting the main performances and works produced by the Poema/Processo group between the years 1967 to 1986. Organized by Gustavo Nóbrega, the book has written historical texts by Frederico Morais, Moacy Cirne, Álvaro de Sá, Neide Sá, Frederico Marcos, Anchieta Fernandes and, most recently, the text by curator and researcher Antonio Sergio Bessa. The organization follows a chronological order and proposes that the story be told by the artists and critics of the time, through facts and texts published in books, magazines, catalogs and newspapers.
