In her first solo exhibition at Galeria Superfície, Mariana Tassinari presents works from her “Sobretempo” series.

From the photographic enlargement of slides of images taken by his grandfather on trips between 1968 and 1969, Tassinari recreates landscapes by manipulating them through cutouts and collages. A process in which the juxtaposition of images leads to unreal places, non-existent places, whose strangeness causes friction between the real register and the illusory one. “Sobretempo” is also a continuation of his research into memory, the investigation of historical documents and family archives.

In this exhibition, the artist reflects on the nature of the images, acting on seams and junctions. Her works, with sometimes more explicit, sometimes more subtle interferences, operate in the same way as memory: they conjugate and overlap images of a single narrative, life itself.

“Sobretempo” is also the name of the artist’s photobook released by publisher Olhavê in 2017.
