Galeria Superfície presents “Por Ser de Lá”, solo exhibition by artist Alan Adi. With text by Ana Maria Maia, the show brings together works of some series developed by the artist over the last years, focusing on the northeastern popular music.

The album covers serve as the source and support of his works, building narratives that embrace historical themes of the country, such as interregional population displacements. In his work “Migrantes”, album covers of northeastern artists who at some point migrated to the southeast of the country are exhibited; In them, the human figure is hidden in reference to the migration of that social actor. Placed in sequence, these covers form a unique landscape in which the image, or its absence, instigates and prompts the reader to reflect on human presence that was there one day.

The titles of the albums and songs also collaborate to compose a territory capable of suggesting scenes of displacements, and the name of the exhibition itself is a reference to the song “Lamento Sertanejo”, by Gil and Dominguinhos. In this song, the lyricists create one of the finest representations of the northeastern migrant, far beyond the commonplace that he is usually portrayed — an effort that is at the heart of the artist’s production.
