Galeria Superfície presents a solo exhibition by Guga Szabzon entitled “dia e noite, ainda é longe?”. With curation and text by Diego Matos, the exhibit features unprecedented works produced between 2020 and 2021.
Continuing her research on imagined places and unanswered questions, Guga presents a series of works in fabric and felt, whose embroidered designs establish a relationship between day and night, where daytime rationality and the mystery evoked by night coexist and complement each other.
The increase in scale of the works and the different sets also reflect this relationship with time and reveal not only a new dynamic between the artist and the time of her production, but also her own perception of time: uncertain, marked more by the contrast of the day and of the night, than by the passage of hours.
Under the light of reason and the shadow of a dream, Guga’s production manifests itself as an outlet, an attempt to control the uncontrollable. In the sewing machine, her gesture is intuitive and she travels along a path without a map where the course is not traced, like a crossing in which the destination is unknown.
