Graduated in Fashion Design from the Universidade Veiga de Almeida, Rio de Janeiro, Arthur Chaves produces works that combine painting, drawing and sewing on pieces of fabric without a rigid shape, which walk in a fine line between installation, painting and drawing. Using a profusion of materials such as fabric, plastic and industrial waste, Arthur’s creations are on the threshold between the concluded, finished, and the open process, in constant transformation.
Currently Arthur works as a teacher of the course ‘Origin and Property’ at Ateliê Novo Mundo, Rio de Janeiro, and artist educator in the collective Transcrições, an initiative made in conjunction with transsexual and transvestite women exposed to HIV, promoted by the Instituto Nacional de Infectologia/Fundação Oswaldo Cruz. He is also part of the jury of the 7th EDP nas Artes Award from Instituto Tomie Ohtake.
The artist has had his work presented, among others, at Galeria Superfície (2019), at Instituto Tomie Ohtake (2018), at Auroras (2018), at EAV Parque Lage (2003); and in other spaces abroad, such as Galerie Bernhard (2019), in Zurich, and at The School for Curatorial Studies (2015), in Venice.
